Worth the Listen
- By Coralie on 2021-03-27
Like a Cup of Hot Tea
I've expounded on my love for this listen many times, and I can't help myself, I have to suggest it yet again for a few reasons. It's got the familiar story of the hard-on-his luck Charlie Bucket whose dreams come true when he gets to visit the chocolate factory he's admired his whole life. It's a quick listen at just over three hours, perfect for sharing with the ones you love on a smart speaker for family night. The main reason why I return to this one is the narrator, Douglas Hodge. He has one of the coziest, warmest, kindest voices I've ever heard narrate an audiobook, and I often let out a big sigh once he starts speaking. If you feel like slipping on fuzzy slippers and sipping a cup of tea, just hit play and sit back.

Story23
Needing a change of scene, Griffin Burke moves from Brisbane to Coolum Beach to start a new job. The beautiful white sand, aqua-colored ocean, blue skies, and summer breezes are everything he longs for. What he finds is a mud-covered dog, lost and hungry, with a name tag and a phone number. Dane Hughes is stuck in Surfers Paradise at a week-long work conference when he gets a phone call from his distraught mother. His dog, his fur baby, Wicket, has run away. Unable to leave and feeling helpless and miserable, he gets a text from a guy. "I think I found your dog."

Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately.

We're in the middle of an epidemic of average. So-called "normal" people get up every day, go to work, do what's asked of them, leave promptly at five, and return home to sit on the couch and watch TV. Society tells us that this is what it means to lead a balanced life. Don't stress too much or work too hard. Your career isn't everything. But Grant Cardone thinks this preoccupation with balance has really just given an excuse to be mediocre.
