"How did you go bankrupt?" Ernest Hemingway wrote in The Sun Also Rises. The answer? "Two ways: gradually then suddenly." In this illuminating book, Mark Batterson reveals that this principle applies not just to failure, but to every area of life—especially success. Listeners will identify the consistent, faithful steps they need to be taking now to set the stage for future breakthroughs. Drawing from biblical wisdom, historical examples, and his nearly thirty years of leadership experience, Batterson shows how success happens at the speed of a seed rather than the speed of light.

There are times in life when one phase ends and another begins. In Midlife Awakening, our post-menopausal years are described as a "second puberty"—a time when an era of our selfhood gives way to something new. This new chapter need not indicate decline. It can, in fact, be a time of spiritual awakening. While physical age and societal prejudices can form an emotional undertow for all of us, best-selling author Marianne Williamson guides toward the psychological power to counter that.

Everyone needs a kick in the ass from time to time

First of all, this isn't a traditional self-help book. This is a collection of life coaching sessions with an expert in the field, each with a new client with a different set of problems they want help addressing. Mel is truly skilled at drilling down to the source of an issue that someone is having, and really gets to the heart of the problem quickly. She is incredibly honest and grounded, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with her approach. Even if you don't identify directly with each person, you'll surely gain some insight into how you can take a look at your own life and identify areas where you could use a little help. Now that I've finished, I'm off to listen to the rest of Mel's books!

Brene Browm Always Keeps It Real

I read this book about 9 or 10 years ago and loved it! Now the updated version keeps it real for where we are struggling today. I listened to it twice ... the first time in drives to work and the second, at home in the quiet while making notes for myself! Love the guideposts! This book supports me in leading my best life....my goal presently! Thank you Brene!

Good tips for all ages

This is the type of book I wish I had of listened to when I was younger. It's full of CBT and mindfulness strategies and exercises that are professionally approved, but delivered in a way that only Dan Howell can. I know this book will help a lot of young people, but I think it will also help a lot of people age 30+ too. Even for those who have already been to therapy or are being treated for mental health conditions, You Will Get Through This Night is chalk full of great reminders.

Neil is talking to us

For context I listen / read a book a month.Neil has great advice from lessons learned. Above all, what I loved about this audiobook, is the way the author talks to the audience in a passionate engaging voice. Many great authors read their book or hire a speaker, and the result is often monotone. Not so with this material.Neil talks to us.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

After spending six weeks in bed pining for her lost love, she was encouraged by a friend to be "open-minded" about her career choices - and ended up placing an online ad for a sugar daddy. Some people bounce back in response to setbacks; others break. We often think that these responses are hardwired, but fortunately this is not the case. Stoicism offers us an alternative approach. Plumbing the wisdom of one of the most popular and successful schools of thought from ancient Rome, philosopher William B. Irvine teaches us to turn any challenge on its head. The Stoic Challenge, then, is the ultimate guide to improving your quality of life through tactics developed by ancient Stoics, from Marcus Aurelius and Seneca to Epictetus.
